May Tournament Rules

TWIN PORTS WALLEYE ASSOCIATION TOURNAMENT LIMITED TO THE FIRST 60 BOATS. This will be a two day CATCH PHOTO AND RELEASE WALLEYE TOURNAMENT on the St. Louis River. Two person teams. Entry fee is $50.00 per person for the two day Tournament with 80 % of the entry fee being paid out to the top 20% of the boats. Contestants may catch and score multiple walleyes but only the four longest fish each day will count for total measurement. 15” minimum. Tournament start times will be Saturday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, Sunday 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will be a mandatory rules meeting, Friday night before the tournament date, at 6:oo pm. Awards ceremony on Sunday after the Tournament. Location T.B.D

Location

All teams must start and end at Rice’s Point. Parking will be limited to the spaces on the farthest western end of parking lot away from the main parking and boat launch. Teams may put in at any of the St. Louis River launch sites but must start and end at Rice’s Point. Teams must be back to the High Bridge by ending time or will be disqualified.

Boundaries

Contestants may fish anywhere from the cable below Fond du Lac Dam down river to the Minnesota Entry or Wisconsin Entry ( NOT LAKE SUPERIOR) All waters navigable by boat are open between these boundaries.

Starting Order

Boat numbers will be drawn at the mandatory rules meeting, Friday night before the tournament date. Both days will start at 7:00 AM. Day One will start in order according to boat number. Day two will be in reverse order. Day one boats 1-25 have to be in by 3:30 pm, boats 26-50 in by 4pm. Day two boats 26-50 will be in by 2:30 pm, boats 1-25 in by 3:00 pm.

Pictures
Each boat must supply own digital camera that will accept S/D cards.

Picture one. Contestant taking picture of Walleye on measuring board should be directly above fish with head facing left touching board, belly facing photographer and tail pinched as best as possible to see measurement. Failure to have clear view of head touching board and tail will result in fish not being accepted. Second picture will be of contestant holding fish.

Rule Change

These rules will remain unchanged. Interpretation of these rules shall be left exclusively to the Tournament Committee. The decision of the Tournament Committee shall be final in all matters. Failure to comply with any rule will result in disqualification.

Age Limit

Contestants under 18 years of age must have the signature of his/her parent or legal guardian on the entry form, as well as the contestant’s signature.

Eligibility & Membership

All anglers 16 yrs. of age or older must be current members of the Twin Ports Walleye Association. The membership fee is $20.00 and will run from January to December. Contestants under the age of 16 yrs. may fish with parent or legal guardian. Under this rule there may be more than two contestants in a boat but will only be allowed 4 lines. No more than 4 lines per boat. No exceptions.

Safety

Safe boating must be observed at all times. Each contestant must wear a Coast Guard approved floatation device at all times when the engine is operated above trolling speed. All boats must meet Coast Guard and State requirements. Motors may not exceed BIA rating established by the manufacturer. All boats are required to carry a minimum of $100,000 of liability insurance.

Weather Conditions & Breakdowns

Tournament officials will only begin tournament during acceptable weather conditions. It is solely the responsibility of the contestants to be aware of changing weather conditions. If conditions change during tournament hours to unsafe conditions, the contestants are permitted to seek safe shelter until weather conditions pass. Contestants will be supplied emergency contact numbers for mechanical failure or for any other incidents that may occur.

Measurements and Rules

All contestants must follow rules set forth by Minnesota DNR. All fish must be caught live and in manner consistent to rules and regulations governing said body of water. Unit of measure is to round up to the nearest 1/4 inch. Each boat must supply own digital camera that will accept S/D cards. Each boat will receive a score card, pen, and S/D card placed in a zip lock bag. Each boat will receive a measurement board if measurement board is lost or damaged contestant is subject to pay $30.00 for replacement. All items are to be returned at the end of each day. No exceptions. Both contestants must sign and verify score sheet. Failure to do any of the following will result in DQ. No keeping fish unless mortally wounded. Mortally wounded fish kept for personal use must comply with State of Minnesota regulations.

Ties

In case of a tie, positions shall be determined by longest fish, second longest, third longest and fourth.

Protests

Protests must be made within 15 minutes after results have been posted. Protests must first go through the Tournament Director then Tournament Committee. Tournament director and Committee will have final say.

Anyone caught cheating will be disqualified for life.
